Legwarmers. Just can’t get enough! I’ve already shared a knit pattern, but as you know, I am bi-crafty! I truly love being able to knit and crochet. It means my options are doubled!

So today, I give you- Winter Legs, crochet edition!

Once again, I am using the rainbow colored crochet leg warmers

PATTERN

Winter Legs, Crochet

A crochet pattern, by Rebecca Velasquez

YARN: Worsted weight (#4 medium), 317 yds [290 m], 6.7 oz [190 g]; Shown: Red Heart Super Saver Yarn, Favorite Stripe100% acrylic; 236 yds [215 m], 5 oz [141 g]: Flamenco Stripe; 2 skeins

HOOK: H/5 mm, I/6 mm

NOTIONS: Stitch markers (1), tapestry needle, tape measure

GAUGE: Exact gauge is not crucial, to achieve measurements shown- 12 sts X 10 r = 4″ [10 cm] in esc in the round with H/5 mm hook.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 18″ [46 cm] long, 10 1/4″ [26 cm] circumference

SIZE: tween (to fit approx age 9-12 yrs)

PROJECT LEVEL: Easy, confident beginner

TECHNIQUES USED: ch, sc, sc in blo, sl st, esc

ABBREVIATIONS:

Ch- chain

Blo- back loop only

Ea- each

Esc- extended single crochet

Sc- single crochet

Sl st- slip stitch

NOTES:

  • Lower ribbing is worked and joined, warmer body stitches are then stitched in the round then upper ribbing made.
  • Stitching begins at the ankle.
  • Make 2.

WARMERS

Ankle Ribbing

Row 1: With sz H hook, ch 8, sc in back hump of first ch from hook, sc into back hump of ea ch to end, turn- 8 sc.

Row 2: Sc in blo of ea st to end, turn- 8 sc.

Rows 3-33: Rep Row 2.

Being careful not to twist, fold the ribbing in half, working in blo of both edges, sl st to end, turn piece right side out so that seam is to the inside- 8 sl

Rnd 1: Turn piece so that you will now be working into the side edges of the ribbing just made, ch 1, esc in side edge of ea sc to end, do not join, do not turn- 33 esc.

Rnd 2: Begin working in a spiral, esc in first esc, PM to mark beginning, move marker up with ea round.

Esc in ea esc around until entire piece measures 4” [10 cm].

Switch to I/6 mm hook.

Continue working esc in ea esc until desired length of leg portion, stopping 1 stitch before marker.

Sc in last esc of round. This will level out the step created from stitching in a spiral.

Upper Ribbing

Row 1: Sl st in marked sc, remove marker, ch 8, sc in first ch from hook and in ea of next 7 ch, sk sc previously slip stitched into, sl st in next sc, turn.

Row 2: Sc in blo of ea sc to end, turn- 8 sc.

Row 3: Sc in blo of ea sc to end, sl st in next sc of leg, turn.

Row 4-33: Rep Rows 2-3.

Turn piece inside out, with right sides together, hold foundation ch and row just made together, sl st in blo of both edges to seam, fasten off- 8 sl st.

Weave in ends. •
