A few days ago, I did a refurbishing of a pattern from years back. Reading through and reworking it, I had thoughts of, “ya know, I’d really like to change this” or “I wish that were a little different” …. Then the next thought was “well, what ya waiting for?!?” So today, I offer up just that!
For the *new* pattern, I have updated the wording, slightly lengthened and changed the way the wrist portion looks as well as making them a scootch longer at the fingers… Enjoy

Silver Rails Mitts

YARN: Fingering weight (#1 superfine), 250 yds [229 m]; Shown: Loops & Threads, Woolike 85% acrylic 15% nylon; 678 yds [620 m], 3.5 oz [100 g]: 2 Cool Gray; 1 skein
HOOK: F [3.55 mm]
NOTIONS: Tapestry needle, removable stitch markers (5)
GAUGE: 20 sts and 21 rows = 4″ [10 cm] in stitch pattern
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Circumference at palm: 7½” [19 cm] length 7 3/4 ” [17 cm]

TECHNIQUES USED: fdc, sl st, sc, dc, fp stitches
ABBREVIATIONS:
Ch- chain
Dc- double crochet
Ea- each
Fdc- foundation double crochet

NOTES:
- Mitts are worked in spiraling rounds, do not join unless directed, do not turn at the end of rounds.
- Directions are for left glove; right glove in brackets [ ].
MITTS
Rnd 1: When making slipknot, leave a tail of at least 12″, make 40 fdc, being careful not to twist, with RS facing, bring ends together, join with sl st- 40 fdc.
Rnd 2: Sc in first fdc (same as prev sl st), PM in sc just made to mark beginning of rnd, move marker up with each round, sc in ea fdc around- 40 sc.
Rnd 3: Sc in first sc and in next sc, *fpdc around dc of row below skipping sc of current row, sc in ea of next 3 sc; rep from * around, sc in last 2 dc- 40 sts.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, dc in ea st around- 40 dc.
Rnd 5: Sc in first dc and in next dc, *fpdc around fpdc of row below skipping dc of current row, sc in ea of next 3 dc; rep from * around, ending with sc in last dc- 40 sts.
Rnd 6: Rep Rnd 4.
Rnd 7: *Fpdc around dc of row below, sc in next dc, fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next dc; rep from * around.
Rnd 8: Rep Rnd 4.
Rnd 9: *Fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next sc, rep from * around.
Rnd 10-15: Rep rows 8-9 alternately.
Rnd 16: Rep Rnd 4.
Rnd 17: *Fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next dc**; rep from * to ** 5 [13] times more, fpdc around next fpdc of row below, do not skip dc, sc in dc, PM in sc just made, fpdc around same fpdc as prev fpdc, sc in next dc, rep from * to ** around- 42 sts.
Rnd 18: Rep Rnd 4- 42 dc.
Rnd 19: *Fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next dc**; rep from * to ** 5 [13] times more, fpdc around fpdc of row below, (sc, fpsc, sc) in next dc, move marker to fpsc just made; rep from * to ** around- 44 sts.
Rnd 20: Rep Rnd 4- 44 dc.

Rnd 22: Rep Rnd 4.
Rnd 23: *Fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next dc**; rep from * to ** 6 [14] times more, fpdc around fpdc of row below, do not skip dc, sc in dc, fpdc around same fpdc as prev fpdc, sc in next dc; rep from * to ** around- 46 sts.
Rnd 24: Rep Rnd 4.
Rnd 25: *Fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next dc**; rep from * to ** 6 [14] times more, fpdc around fpdc of row below, (sc, fpsc, sc) in next dc, PM around fpsc just made; rep from * to ** around- 48 sts.
Rnd 26: Rep Rnd 4.
Rnd 27: *Fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next dc**; rep from * to ** 7 [15] times, fpdc around marked fpsc of row below, remove marker, sc in next dc; rep from * to ** around.
Rnd 28: Rep Rnd 4- 48 dc.
Rnd 29: *Fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next dc**; rep from * to ** around.
Rnd 30: Ch 1, dc in first st and in ea of next 10 [22] sts, PM (A) in dc just made, dc in ea of nxt 16 [16] sts, PM (B) in dc just made, dc in ea st around.
Separate Thumb
Rnd 31: *Fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next dc**; rep from * to ** to marker, fpdc around fpdc of row below marked dc, do not remove marker, ch 1, PM (C) in ch just made, sk all dc until next marker, fpdc around fpdc of row below marked dc, do not remove marker, sc in next st; rep from * to ** around- 34 sts.
Rnd 32: Ch 1, dc in first st and in ea of next 10 [22] sts, dc in marked ch-1 sp, do not remove marker, dc in ea st around- 34 dc.
Rnd 33: *Fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next dc; rep from * around.
Rnd 34: Rep Rnd 4.
Rnd 35: Rep Rnd 33.
Rnd 36: *Fpdc around fpdc of row below, fpdc around sc; rep from * around. – 34 fpdc
Rnd 37: Fpdc around ea fpdc until 2 sts before marker, fphdc around nxt fpdc, fpsc around last fpdc, fasten off.
Thumb
Rnd 1: Shift mitt so that the palm side is facing you, join new yarn one stitch to the left of marker (A) with sl st, sc in same dc as sl st, *fpdc around fpdc of row below, sc in next dc; rep from * around to next marker (B), fpsc around marked dc, remove marker, sc in bottom loop of marked (C) chain, remove marker, fpsc around next marked dc (A), remove marker- 18 sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, fpdc around first sc, PM in fpdc just made to mark beginning of rnd, move marker up with ea rnd, fpdc around ea st around- 18 fpdc
Rnd 3: Fpdc around first fpdc, fpdc around ea of next 15 fpdc, fphdc around nxt fpdc, fpsc around last fpdc, fasten off. – 18 sts
FINISHING
Using long tail from foundation row, seam cuff. Weave in all ends, lightly wet block to measurements if desired.
