The story on this sweater:

Ages ago, my very first venture into lace knitting was this exact stitch. I desperately wanted to learn the magic of lace and yarn overs. So I took this request to my local yarn shop and this 1 Row repeat is what she taught me.

Now, I give it to you, sweater-style!

About the yarn:

Because my intent is for this sweater to be truly a beginner-friendly piece, fat yarn had to be the choice.

Choose a size close to your chest measurement for a standard fit or for an oversize fit, choose several inches or many inches (up to 10 or 12!) larger than actual chest.

Please note the sizing is written to a 1 (2, 3, …) FINISHED MEASUREMENTS and not as a ‘standard’ XS (S, M,…).

Choose from the 10 sizes available to achieve the fit you desire.

Everything about this sweater is completely customizable- although I do give some recommendations for guidance if needed.

Getting started:

Yes, I say this with every pattern – because it’s important. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times- My friend, ya need to swatch. I know its no fun. I know you want to get right to the good stuff. I know it feels like a waste of yarn, and yarn ain’t cheap.
I know. Truly, I know.
But– You want your sweater to fit. This means you need to know how your stitching sizes up to my stitching.
We are all different. Heck, we’re different from ourselves at any given time. I know my gauge is tighter when watching a show than it is if I’m in my stitching chair listening to a book.
Grumble and grump about it (I do), but do it.

To make the process easier and more enjoyable, I’ve created this FREE worksheet for you to use. It helps with the steps, the math, and the organization. Blocking Worksheet

Gauge Swatch

8 sts and 14 rows = 4” [10 cm] after blocking.

Read through each line before beginning to avoid any confusion during stitching.

Refer to Special Stitches instruction {below} as needed.

CO 20.

Row 1 K4, *yo, k2tog, k2; rep from * across to end.

Rep Row 1 until swatch measures 10” [25.5 cm]

Bind off all stitches.

Wet or steam block your swatch. Allow to fully dry.
Measuring the inside stitches, not at the edges, count out your gauge and go up or down a needle size if needed for your sweater.
