Calieta, French Press Cozy with matching coasters crochet pattern

Revel Signature Logo

french pressed becomes calieta

It was 2012 and I drank my creamer with a little coffee. Just a babe in my love of the drink, but at least I was making it right. 🫣 *Ahem, I know- know, how you take your coffee is a truly personal experience. I was told of the amazing French press by my beautiful, amazing friend, Sherry (of EpicuriousTexan), and I’ve never looked back.
Okay, yes. I too was lulled into the ease and convenience of the K machine, but it was short-lived and I’m back to my trusty press for my daily doses.
Back to the story and 2012. As a mom of 4 from 10-15yrs at the time, it’s not hard to imagine that my coffee often went cold before I could even pour it. Bringing: “French Pressed.” This is what I was calling the pattern I wrote for the warming cozy I made for my press. I never did anything with that pattern. It has patiently waited in my computer files.
Fast forward 10 years, the press hasn’t changed, but my cozy has.

will you be stitching a calieta?

If so, will you do something for me? Would you permit me to feature your work on a gallery page and show others how amazing you are. This would also allow me to be able to showcase how this looks in various yarns and on multiple color combinations.  I, and your fellow crochet lovers, would be so so grateful to have additional samples to view! If this is something you would like to help with, you can find me on all the social places (links are on the upper right corner of this page) or you can leave a comment with your social @ and I’ll find you. If you post pics on social and use #CalietaCozy, I might reach out to you that way, too.

There’s always more to the story. I’ve started writing a design diary. It is the chronicling of the day to day process and silliness of designing each piece. Read more at:

about the yarn

Wool Ease is my go-to worsted weight yarn.

80│20 acrylic & wool blend 4│medium weight yarn by Lion Brand Yarns

For me, the small addition of wool to the acrylic makes a significant difference in the feel of the yarn.
I love that it is machine washable and dryable.

It comes in a large color range, has a decent price, and is widely available.

CONSTRUCTION

Cozy is worked bottom up in 1 piece, divided for handle opening and rejoined for top. Yarn is cut with each color change, not carried│floated, top is worked from outside-in, in continuous rounds, no joining or turning. Coasters are worked in 1 piece, end to end, turning after every row.

UNDERSTANDING THE PATTERN

  • Pattern is written for 1 size.
  • Number after period (.) at the end of rows is the stitch count; 12 sts. This means the row just completed should have 12 stitches.
  • If no stitch count is given at the end of row, stitch total did not change from previous listing.
  • Turning chains at beginning of rows do not count as stitches.
  • Joining sl st does not count as stitch.
  • All ‘together’ sts will be referred to as “st” or “sc” on subsequent rows.
  • PM as instructed for identification│future stitch placement reference.
  • Sample shown was lightly blocked without stretching│pinning; laid flat and steamed to relax stitches.
  • Sample shown is exactly as written with no alterations to pattern.
