The next pattern for my personal line, Revel Signature, is here! Bickett Crochet Bucket Hat! Ya’ll this has been my dream for years. Really. YEARS! To finally be here and getting to create the pieces that I’ve been sketching for so long is absolutely amazing!
I am so grateful for you and your continued support. 💝 Thank you.
wait..... it costs how much?!?
If you were to do a little google search for crochet bucket hats, make sure you are sitting down first. Because- WHAT!?! Seriously, at the time of this writing I am finding them (premade) from 60bucks to $710. Nope, that is not a typo. Seven HUNDRED dollars. Ya’ll! That’s just crazy talk.
But I have great news! This pattern is FREE, baby.
And even better news?
You’ve got the skills to make it yourself. Yup, even if you’ve only recently joined the crochet revolution. This crochet bucket hat is easy to make, going around and around using only single crochet stitches with a few slip stitches to decorate and tigten up the edge. This is the perfect make as you’re relaxing poolside…. or on the beach or the back patio or the front porch watching all the neighborhood kids run around… ohhhh I love summer.
About the yarn
I’ve mentioned before that I’m really trying to find uses for the yarn I have on hand… destashing a bit.
This yarn is truly interesting. It is made up of a knit tube that has some sort of a polyfil core. 68% Acrylic 32% Nylon
Due to the construction of this yarn, even though it is a super bulky weight in yarn size, it is lighter in hand than expected. The hat has a nice weight to it, it’s not heavy or uncomfortable to wear, but it’s not so light that I’m worried about it blowing off with a gust of wind. I would say it is equivalent to a quality canvas bucket hat.
I bought 2 of these, the black & white stripe I made this hat with and a solid, bright turquoise. I think my original intent was to make a patio pillow. Maybe? Anyway, all the colorways are very summery and have beachy vibes. Vibrant and fun.
Using only basic stitches, The Bickett crochet bucket hat is a quick and easy project. If you’ve never worked with an Adjustable Ring before, I’ve made a video tutorial and photo tutorial. This is a great beginning stitch to know for any top-down hats in your future.

Getting started
Ya’ll know how I feel about making gauge swatches. Make them. However, for this hat, I’ve built the gauge swatch into the pattern. But while you’re here, grab this helpful worksheet I created for you to use on your next project, when making a gauge swatch will be a big deal. Save this worksheet to your digital notebook or print a few of these off if you’re a paper planner person. This will make the swatch process easier and more enjoyable. I created this FREE worksheet as an easy way to figure out gauge, it’s especially helpful if you’re new and still learning all the ways to be successful with your crochet. This worksheet organizes your stitching information and the fill-in-the-blanks makes the math stress free.
Pattern is written in US terms with imperial and metric measurements.
Pattern is written for 3 sizes.
Sizes given in parentheses: Row 9 (10, 11). If only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.
Yarn amount(s) given is for hat as shown│written. Yardage [m] will vary with any alterations of pattern.
Read through each line before beginning to avoid any confusion during stitching.
Refer to special stitches instruction, pictures and video(s) as needed.
Take time to save time. Gauge information is given in various rows of pattern, verify that project measurements match given diameters. If intending to block fabric of final product, using same yarn as planned for hat, make a gauge swatch by stitching through Row 8 of pattern, at this point, wash and block in the same manner you will be using for your hat to ensure fabric created is as desired and will result in proper measurements│size intended. Refer to Blocking: A Guidefor basic blocking methods│instructions.
CONSTRUCTION
Bucket Hat is worked seamlessly, in the round, top down.
UNDERSTANDING THE PATTERN & SIZING
Hat is worked in the round, in a spiral, do not join at the end of rounds.
Hat is worked with RS facing, do not turn after rounds.
Number after period (.) at the end of rows is the stitch count; 12 sts. This means the row just completed should have 12 stitches.
If no stitch count is given at the end of row, stitch total did not change from previous listing.
To alter the height, instructions are written within the pattern.
Sample is made with one continuous strand of yarn, the changing of colors that appear to be a band and edging are simply happy accident and the way the striping of the yarn changed during stitching. Changing of colors at any time is, of course, at stitcher’s discretion, but instructions are not included in this pattern.
Sample shown in Size L; model has 22” [56 cm] head circumference.
