Hello, hello my friends! I have another free crochet sweater pattern for you. Is it a lotus flower? Or perhaps something a bit more REBELious ?!?
So, about this top:
A bit back (almost a year ago, actually) A fabulous maker contracted me to make this motif for her.
She had a special occasion to dress for using Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo as her inspiration.
This idea has been swirling around in my yarny brain ever since. With the new series of Clone Wars going strong, this top surfaced more and more. Until, well…. here we are.
About the yarn:
From the very beginning, the first “must have” quality in the yarn for this top had to be drape. The cowl neckline demands it.
You know me, affordability is always on my mind, and now, the extra concern of availability, because ugh… Covid.
Coboo by Lion Brand Yarn checked all the boxes. It’s affordable and has amazing drape because of the high bamboo content. Available at Walmart.
Check. Check. Check.
I *really* *really* wanted to make this in true Amilyn colors, with the taupe for the shirt body and the lilac for the cowl, but alas, the store never had the taupe available on my limited outings. But I SOOOOO hope someone does it!! I’d love to see it.
Let's talk sizing:
This top has an easy fit, box body and no sleeves.
No shaping means choosing what size to make is dependent on how you want it to fit.
For the one shown, I chose a positive ease fit of an inch [2.5 cm], which is a 2/3X.
While I have written the pattern in standard XS-5X sizing, please note the FINISHED MEASUREMENTS and make size according to the ease you desire.
Something important to know about the sizes available:
Typically, I am very insistent on sizing and that I have through a true 5x available.
This fancy little motif has me beat, though. It is a repeat of 25 stitches, which seriously affects the sizing capabilities. My best solution was to test it with multiple hooks to create more options.
Also of note about the sweater shown:
Remember, I am but a wee 5′ almost 2″, so the “standard” sweater length is long on me.
If you are a Star Wars fan, or lace motif fan...
Ahsoka is another free crochet sweater pattern here, on the site! The motif in this lace is reminiscent of a character from Star Wars Clone Wars. Her name is Ahsoka Tano and she’s pretty awesome. {FREE pattern}
The skills you need:
Amilyn is not a difficult top to make. While the stitching itself is not hard, placement is important and the motif is 25 stitches wide, which makes each row quite wordy.
foundation single crochet – chain – half double crochet – front post – back post – single crochet – slip stitch – seaming

Getting started:
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times- My friend, ya need to swatch. I know its no fun. I know you want to get right to the good stuff. I know it feels like a waste of yarn, and yarn ain’t cheap.
I know. Truly, I know.
But– You want your sweater to fit. This means you need to know how your stitching sizes up to my stitching.
We are all different. Heck, we’re different from ourselves at any given time. I know my gauge is tighter when watching a show than it is if I’m in my stitching chair listening to a book.
Grumble and grump about it (I do), but do it.
Gauge Swatch:
For a standard length sweater (as shown)- choose sizing from largest of high hip or bust measurement, make size according to ease/fit desired.
For cropped sweater- choose sizing from bust measurement, make size according to ease/fit desired.
Scroll down a bit and find Finished Measurements, decide which size you will make.
Hook size is dependant on which size you’re making.
Sizes S/M, 2/3X: G- [4.00 mm]; or size needed to obtain gauge
Sizes XS, L/1X, 4/5XH- [5.00 mm]; or size needed to obtain gauge
(Refer to Special Stitches instruction as needed.)
Ch 28.
Row 1: Sc in back ridge of 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. 27 sc
Row 2: Stacked dc in first sc [See Special Stitches], dc in next sc, * ch 1, sk sc, dc in next sc; rep from * across, dc in last sc, turn. 15 dc, 12 ch 1
Rows 3-13: Stacked dc in first dc, dc in next dc, * ch 1, dc in next dc; rep from * across, dc in last dc, turn.
Fasten off.
Wet or steam block your swatch. Allow to fully dry.
Measuring the inside stitches, not at the edges, count out your gauge and go up or down a hook size if needed for your sweater.

Row 5-38 (42, 42, 38, 38): Rep Row 4.
Row 39 (43, 43, 39, 39): Ch 1, sc in each st across row, leaving a tail approximately 3x length of shoulder for seaming, fasten off.
Assembly
Wet block or steam Front and Back pieces to measurements before seaming.
With RS together, lining up side edges, using long tails, thread yarn needle, sew front to back, stitch-for-stitch across shoulders using interlocking stitch. Refer to Finished Measurements for length of shoulder to be sewn.
Tip: If you would prefer a more narrow neck opening than suggested, sew further across at this point.
The excess fabric of the front will create the cowl neckline.
To create the armhole, refer to Finished Measurements for length. Measure down side of garment from shoulder. Sew from this point down to hem using interlocking stitch, leaving unsewn at edging for a small side slit/vent if desired.
Finishing
Remove marker(s), weave in ends.
Wet block to measurements, steam seams and edges for best results. •
